1. Care Homes Market Intelligence Questionnaire (MIQ) – November 2023 – DEADLINE 17 November 2023 (information for all ¶®ÒõµÛ and contracted care homes)

Please find the link to the November monthly MIQ below - the deadline for completion is Friday 17 November 2023.

This is the shorter monthly version of the questionnaire. Details of the questions are included in the attached briefing.

Take special care when answering the question on the main reason each of your residents needs care. Only count one reason for each resident (the primary one). The total number of reasons should equal the total number of residents on the day you complete the questionnaire.

Completion of the questionnaire is part of the terms of our current contracts for contracted providers, but we ask all ¶®ÒõµÛ providers to take part in the process to help us meet our responsibilities to all ¶®ÒõµÛ citizens.

Many thanks to staff at the care homes who completed the previous questionnaires. If this did not include your care home, make sure that you complete the November and subsequent editions.

The purpose of the questionnaire is to collect information to assist our market shaping and development role, the production of our Market Position Statements, fulfil our Care Act duties around ensuring a quality and sustainable market, to help us direct resources, identify areas of risk, and monitor progress towards our strategic aims. It has been co-produced with health colleagues to reduce duplication in data collection, and has been streamlined so that we are only collecting information that is not available to us from elsewhere e.g. the Capacity Tracker.

We will only be collecting data that we will use and at the frequency we need it. There is a shorter monthly questionnaire, a slightly longer quarterly questionnaire with some additional questions, and a slightly longer still annual questionnaire.

Further information about this subject has been circulated to providers. To request a copy, email marketintelligence@birmingham.gov.uk

2. REMINDER Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) Winter Preparedness and COVID-19 Testing – how to request additional LFD tests by 3 November 2023 (information for all care homes and extra care sheltered housing providers)

Symptomatic testing for residents eligible for COVID-19 treatments and outbreak testing will continue throughout the winter period as detailed in the IPC guidance. To enable the sector to continue to test during this time with no limitations or delay due to replenishing stock, we are giving you the opportunity to request additional stock of COVID-19 LFD tests. The number of tests available will depend on your total bed capacity as registered with the CQC.

You will be able to request your additional stock of COVID-19 tests via the order portal from 20 October 2023 to the 3 November 2023.

Further information about this subject has been circulated to providers. To request a copy, email marketintelligence@birmingham.gov.uk

3. New Care Quality Commission (CQC) assessments of social care providers starting from 21 November 2023 in the South region (information for all providers)

From 21 November the CQC will start using their new single assessment framework in the South region.

Between 21 November and 4 December the CQC will undertake a small number of planned assessments with 14 early adopter providers, whilst continuing to respond to risk. They will then expand their new assessment approach to all providers based on a risk-informed schedule.

The CQC will be in touch with providers in other areas of the country to confirm when they will start using their new approach with them shortly.

More information about how the CQC are implementing their new approach can be found here;

4. REMINDER Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) survey re setting 2024-25 for NHS-funded Nursing Care (information for all nursing homes)

DHSC is currently in the process of setting the 2024-2025 rate for NHS-funded Nursing Care (FNC). This is being informed by a one-off cost collection exercise, run via Capacity Tracker. The survey is non-mandatory, but it would be great if as many providers as possible could complete this. They are writing to you now, to give you advance notice that the survey is expected to go live on Wednesday 25 October 2023 and will be open for three weeks.

Further information about this subject has been circulated to providers. To request a copy, email marketintelligence@birmingham.gov.uk
