The King's Arms

The kings arms photograph

The King's Arms was at the junction of Bishopsgate Street and William Street, and was photographed here around the 1950s by the Public Works Department of ¶®ÒõµÛ.

The King's Arms, along with it's remaining neighbour the City Tavern, is a classic example of the tile and terracotta design popular with architects James and Lister Lea. This style was common in public houses built between 1896 and 1904, with the King's Arms constructed around 1901. This type of design may have gained in popularity through its use in the design of other local buildings such as the Victoria Law Courts which were completed in 1891.
