Broad Street, ¶®ÒõµÛ.

This is the approximate site of the legendary Rum Runner Club. 'Legendary' because, before it was demolished in 1987 to make way for the Hyatt Hotel, this was where the walls had been graffitied by Duran Duran fans. It was in this club that the band initially worked and rehearsed and partied in 1979 and 1980. The club's owners, Paul and Michael Berrow managed the band and Duran Duran went on to achieve worldwide fame in the 1980s.

The club itself opened in 1964 and developed a reputation as a late night place for bands to hang out. Black Sabbath went there and the house band in the early 1970s was Magnum. They left in 1975 to concentrate on their own melodic pomp rock which would eventually gain them chart success in the 1980s.

After a visit to the legendary Studio 54 in New York at the height of the 1970s disco era, the owners remodelled The Rum Runner and progressive DJs played a mix of Roxy Music and David Bowie as well as jazz funk.

There were live gigs at the club and it also offered free rehearsal space to Dexy's Midnight Runners and UB40. The Beat also filmed their video for the single Mirror In The Bathroom at the club.
