The Glee Club was opened by in September 1994 by owner Mark Tughan as a comedy club. It continues to host major comedy names and is the primary club in the city for comedy. It also now has branches in other cities. Following the closure of the ¶®ÒõµÛ branch of Ronnie Scott's club, the promoter who booked the rock and pop acts at Ronnie Scott's started to book acts to appear at The Glee Club meaning the club is now a music and comedy venue.

The Glee is noted as a venue where you can usually listen to the acts as they have a 'no-talking during performances' policy. This usually ensures an attentive audience. It has a small raised stage and two performance rooms.
